All About Bunions

Are bunions becoming a pain to your active lifestyle? If so, you are not alone.  Bunions, or Hallux Valgus, are more common than you may think.

Bunions affect about 23% of adults age 18-65 years and 35.7% of adults over 65 years of age. Bunions are also more common in women, 30% versus males at 13%.

What exactly is a bunion?

A bunion, hallux valgus, is a bony protrusion that forms most often in the joint at the base of the big toe.  The big toe joint enlarges and forces the toe to point back toward the other toes, encroaching on them and sometimes overlapping them.  This abnormal positioning puts pressure on the big toe joint, causing it to grow outward beyond the normal profile of the foot, resulting in pain that can stop you in your tracks.

What can you do to reduce the pain?

The OrthoSleeve BR4, Bunion Relief Socks, provide orthopedic support in a wearable performance sock.  Its unique construction combined with our Compression Zone Technology®  relieves pain and prevents further damage.

The BR4 acts as a barrier, preventing blisters and continued friction pain from rubbing footwear and misaligned toes, and uses four zones of graduated compression, a split-to design, and a targeted bunion pad to provide effective pain relief.  The BR4 will form-fit to your foot and is comfortable enough to wear at any time.
